Backflow prevention uses devices and methods to prevent contaminated water from infiltrating a potable water supply. It’s important for several reasons. The first is public health, as backflow poses a serious risk. The second is legal compliance. Many municipal plumbing codes mandate backflow prevention. The third is water quality. The contaminants released into the water supply can damage the overall water system, causing expensive fixes.
In New York State, many properties and businesses are required to have backflow prevention measures in place. Additionally, any prevention devices used must be maintained and tested each year by a certified professional. At WTS Plumbing, we are proud to be the NYS-certified backflow device installer and RP2 tester of choice for property owners in Batavia, Leroy, NY, and all of Genesee County.

A BPD is a mechanism designed to prevent contaminated water from flowing backward into a clean water supply.
In New York State, BPD are required to undergo annual testing by a certified professional.
If you own or operate a commercial property where there’s a fire sprinkler or irrigation system, it’s recommended to have one. It’s also a good idea for multifamily dwellings, and facilities that use recycled water for irrigation or other non-potable purposes. Finally, it’s recommended to check with your local authorities to see if municipal codes require an RP2 backflow device.
Simply put, if you do not test your backflow device as required, your water could be shut off, and you could be subject to fines and other penalties. Don’t take that chance.
